The Tin Drum (German: Die Blechtrommel) is a 1959 novel written by Günter Grass. It is the first book of Grass's Danzig Trilogy (The Tin Drum (Die Blechtrommel) 1959; Cat and Mouse (Katz und Maus) 1961; Dog Years (Hundejahre) 1963), It was adapted into a 1979 film, which was directed by Volker Schondorf.
